vw Golf manual trans wont shift into 5th gear. any help?

hello i have a 1996 vw golf. I was driving and realized it was a little hard to shift into 5th gear. But now my car wont shift into at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

well, bad news, your 5th gear went out, that means time to rebuild that tranny or replace
