VW Golf Mk3 1996 1.8 Petrol internmittant fault?

Hi,

My car appears to have an intermittant fault this has happened twice in a month. Was driving my car which suddenly lost power and stopped. When trying to start it the battery light is on and the engine pressure light is flashing when the engine is trying to turn over. It wont re-start and will once left for some considerable amount of time it will start again with no apparent problems.

Any suggestions /simialr problems? Any idea if it is easy to fix.

That used to happen to my partners beetle and it was the fuel pump. Don't know if that's any help to you. Good luck in trying to solve it.
