My VW Polo 2003 model makes a heavy grinding noise when I take my foot off the clutch and it totally goes away when I press the clutch. The noise is bad in the 4th gear and worse in the 5th gear but not as bad in the lower gears.
After reading a similar post here someone suggested that it could either be a bearing in the transmission or the CV joints.
My question is that supposing if it is due to a failed bearing in the transmission then is it possible to suppress this noise by adding Mollyslip gear oil additive or by any other means?
And secondly, if it is due to low gear oil in the gerabox then which type/grade of oil is recommended by VW for this model for topping it up?
Thanks in advance.
