W140 s500 whining noise?

Hi, I just got a my first benz and I've heard this noise ever since the test drive, its not loud but its like an undertone to the engine. as the engine increases rpm, the noise increases in pitch. Is it normal and could it be just transmission noise like every other car.

You need to trace down the source, or at least area of where the noise is coming from. Many different things can cause a 'whining noise'.
