Want to increase horsepower on 2000 gmc sonoma?

Will adding an cold air intake on this 4.3c truck add some horsepower to it. Also how do you change the gear ratios and is that the smart thing to do or will it mess up? if not how do you change them thanks. just got this truck for christmas god bless for any help

The best thing to do is find a shop that can re-tune the chip. I have up grades to my truck and the only thing that is not letting it run to its full potential is the computer. I have an older model truck and it is going to cost me around $400 for the re-programing.
