Crucifixion was a Roman punishment reserved for those found guilty of high crimes such as treason against Rome or sedition against Rome.

bar-Abbas simply was an invention of one of the Gospel writers, not an actual person.
Once someone was sentenced to death by crucifixion there could be NO AMNESTY under Roman law.
