Both.She was certainly being racially abusive and exercising her right to freedom of speech. Unfortunately for her freedom of speech comes within the confines of the laws of the land and she clearly overstepped the mark with her hate speech.John Galliano got caught out recently too being abusive to Jewish people.
She is speaking her mind,this is the sort of thing I am hearing more and more of nowadays,nothing against foreigners but when your country is over run and the economy is going down the pan because there is not enough money to go round you get annoyed at someone.Your kids go to school and English is becoming the second language,local factories are full of Polish workers,the job centres are full of non English speakers wanting to claim benefit,the NHS is strained with the huge demand for treatment,there is a serious housing shortage.All Europe has done for Britain is fill it full of people who want to take advantage of our system,it is getting to the point where the sh*t is about to hit the fan.

She is just an ignorant soul. I wonder what pissed her off. She is so ignorant doesn't even know one single thing about her own heritage. (She says she is British). She is totally uneducated and needs to read about history of her own country. Starting from 1066....

Well I know we're all expected to sit back and watch our country turned into a 3rd world slum in silence, but it's hardly surprising some people just cant bring themselves to ignore what's been done by our corrupt politicians against our wishes.
Swearing in front of children obviously isn't great, but the child is undoubtedly the only thing that saved her from a good kicking or worse. The guy behind her was set to get stuck in when she said "Nicaragua" and only stopped because the person next to him asked him not to (or he spotted the camera.) Maybe he thinks he has a right to punch people who mention that part of central America because it sounds a bit like a word he probably uses with his friends on a daily basis.
She was loud, obscene and annoying, but did she really hurt anyone?
I notice nobody's complaining about the black woman who was happy to brand all English people as work shy. Is that not racist? Nobody even noticed did they?

Ignoring the racial content of what she said, it was foul mouthed ignorant behaviour, with no consideration for her fellow passengers, and less for her own child, who will grow up to think that such casual abusing and swearing at other people is normal behviour.
There's a balance to be struck between exercising your freedom of speech; and regard and consideration for those forced to listen. She was way beyond acceptably stating a viewpoint.
No doubt, the BNP will dub her the "Tram Martyr" if she faces charges!
