Watercraft (boat or jetski) abandonment definition?

I want to know if it is LEGAL to take a watercraft vessel that is sitting on the side of the road AND its registration is expired on both the vessel AND the trailer?
In addition; can I then claim it as mine and register it under my name?
Also; if this is true can you please provide direct links to verify this. Thank you.
 
No it's not LEGAL. You cam only claim a boat or jet Ski is abandoned if it's on your property, and you have made several efforts to collect back rent etc. and then gone through the process of claiming the boat as abandoned..........which can take a year to do, then you get an abandoned boat title. If there is a lean on the boat, you have to pay it off.

Check your local boat registration agency.
