We thought our hamster was hibernating and tried to wake it, then it died. What

happened ? Ok so my brother had a young syrian hamster (literally, he died last night) . my brother started crying because he thought it had died. It was just in its little house. Then we saw it take a deap breath and then back to looking dead. So i thought it must have been hibernating. We warmed it up and rubbed it and tried to feed it for about 45 minutes (this was at about 12 am) and eventually he started slowly opening his eyes and then, kind of, jerking his head forward while taking really deap breaths. It sounded a bit like he was stugling and like he was breathing through liquid or something. We thought this may be normal so incouraged him to do so and he did. Then he stretched out but stopped the breathing. He looked very dead and we have no doubt he is. He also had some white stuff coming out of his penus.
What happened ?
