In a bizarre trend that showed up early on Sunday, a wave of awfulness washed over the NFL's kickers. There were 12 missed field goals, as well as a missed extra point, and a made field goal that was called back because of a holding penalty.

The absolute worst crown goes to Phil Dawson and the Cleveland Browns. He missed a 22-yarder. Though the snap was bad, holder Brad Maynard appeared to get the ball in place in time for a good kick.

But no. He sent the ball sailing wide left.

Dawson was not alone in missing kicks that are generally gimmes. Jay Feely missed a 37-yarder for the Cardinals, and Neil Rackers a 37-yarder and a point after. Nick Folk missed a 24-yarder in the Jets loss to the Patriots.

The awfulness even reached kickers with the best percentages in the league. Robbie Gould made 94.4 percent of field goals attempted for the Bears this season, but missed on a 43-yard attempt. Folk's percentage is 92.3, but that didn't matter.

The one consolation for the NFL's kickers is that their terribleness happened on all one day, so they aren't alone in their misery.
