Were angels in Judaism originally semetic deities?

Like were they originally worshipped along side Elyon? The Bible sometimes describes God like an angel, saying he has wings, etc.
 
No, actually demons were worshiped as gods, and had idols made of them.
 
Yes. During the process of Judaism transitioning from polytheism to henotheism to nominal monotheism, they got demoted several times. Ellil was more the central deity in the north, in Judea it was more Ehyeh. Of course the two got merged eventually.
