what are all the handheld consoles?

i'm looking to buy one and i wanna explore my options. it would be for my husband and i. its been way to long since i've played my gameboy and its broken. What are all the handheld devices, such as gameboy or nintendo ds stuff like that

Well there's gameboy, nintendo 3ds, PSP, PSP vita,and a new wii hand held console.the most entertaining is probably the 3ds . The vita and wii hand held are coming out soon and look pretty cool I think you should stick with nintendo it has great family fun.

There are 2 main companies who release handheld systems: Sony and Nintendo (there are of course other ones but those 2 are the main players). So you have the choice between the playstation portable family (psp, psp go or psp Vita) and the nintendo dual screen (ds, dsi, dsiXL and 3ds). Personally (and I have both of those systems, a psp & a 3ds ) I would recommend the ds because of the volume of games available that both you and your husband could enjoy. Secondly, as long as you don't need the latest gear or want to play those 200+ games (if that) that were released solely on dsi/3ds, you can buy yourself and your husband a ds each and the cost will be comparable to 1 console of the newest generation. And finally, if you are interested in this type of thing, you can hack a ds easily (thou you need a card for that) and the games are easy to download from the internet. The games files are also smaller than for a psp; for example Kingdom hearts: re coded (ds) is ~240 mb (and this one is one of the biggest ones) and Kingdom hearts: birth by sleep (psp) is round ~1,5 Gb.

If it's for your husband, and if you can wait than I think you should wait for the PSP Vita, it should be release early next year for the USA, but if you are looking for one right now, than the Nintendo 3DS is a great choice.

An alternative is an iPOD touch, but I really recommend the other two before the iPod, because they have better games.

Well nowadays there's the Nintendo 3DS, (I think) the DSi XL & the Sony PSP & the upcoming PS Vita. Some people consider the Apple iPod touch in the same realm, so there's the iPod touch 4G.
