What are Godparents Religion?

Like im talking religion here I have friends who are Catholic and of course they have God parents

But are godparents always related to like the godchild
And how many godparents can the godchild have can they have like 2 sets

Like one from the moms side and one from the dads side or choosing
why do you care how I write and how is it scientifically proven that 8 year old girls write Like or do you just know that because you like to lure 8 year old girls into your van with candy and that's how they talk
 
A family appoints a couple (family and/or friends) to look after the child and bring it up as its own in case of their death. Called a godparent and godchild but has nothing whatsoever to do with religion. Our godchild stayed with us from 16 and a half to nearly thirty. He is now officially part of the family. Married with his own family. Some people accept it as a honor, but others do not feel up to it. Massive responsibility.
