What are some books that have surprising or dramatic endings?

I like books that don't end with a "...and we lived happily ever after, the end..." type of thing. I like books that have something amazing or twisted or disappointing and leave me thinking. Can you name any books? I'm fourteen so please suggest books that would be good for someone my age to read.

:P I completely agree with you!!!

Well i would have to say that Phillip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' series is the best ever.
I have the same opinion with the 'happily ever after' things and i adored his trilogy.

But be warned it probably isn't the best for Christian people, not because it's crude or any such thing
just because it goes against those beliefs and such.

I can't quite think of many others at the moment so yeah, that's the one i would reccommend :)
