What are some good places to see in Chicago?

I might be going to Chicago for the first time to go to a concert but I want to do some sightseeing while I am there, If I do go. What are some nice places to visit? What's a good motel or hotel to stay in? I'm not sure how much I will want to spend on a room just yet, but I would love some advice.
