Stargate SG-1-over 200 episodes, 10 years worth of shows, lots of action, good plot, darker and more moodier in the later seasons.
Stargate Atlantis-100 episodes, spin-off of SG-1, action, good plot, darker and moodier than SG-1, can watch with out seeing SG-1 but will be better if you know the background.
Stargate Universe-currently in first season, damn near depressing in its tone, more character driven than action driven, noticeable Battlestar Galactica influence. less action.
There's the major motion picture movie that jump started it all, Stargate, and their are 2 straight to DVD movies and more on the way.
The Stargate franchise has a rich plot that draws on real and fictional history. It has strong theological and philosophical overtones, lots of history and science, people shooting guns, aliens, space fights, and a big ass metal circle that transports people to the other side of the universe in less than a second. and each episode ties into the last. There is no monster of the week. It's very serialized like lost of x-files.
Eureka on Syfy is good. It's about a small secret town of super geniuses run by the US government. they invent things and trouble and hilarity ensues and the only non-genius, the town sheriff, has to fix things to save the world.
A few years ago ABC family had this show called Middleman. It was based on the comic book of the same name. It was awesome. Of course they canceled it.
There was this show on USA called The 4400. very good show. Heroes ripped it off and became more popular.
