Medical answers seem to be hard to come by. I like listening to the Dr. Edel show where he touches on this subject occasionally. He struggles to give any good answer for this as to the negatives but will admit there are some trends both positive and negative to it. Pot smoking brings up many strong opinions for both sides no matter how you look at it. To me it seems some of the chemicals in pot may indeed have some medical benefits but in smoke form it likely has some of the same drawbacks that cigarettes carry. I'd once heard that the density of smoke in pot is roughly 10 times that of the average cigarette. That equates the "damage" a full pack of cigarettes does to someone to about that of two joints-just something I've heard but never seen backed up or studied.
From a personal perspective it doesn't seem like an attractive thing to do. I've watched friends get high in front of me and it has an almost sad/disappointing quality to it as they seem to become glassy-eyed and very detached. I've never done pot but noticed a common thread in some of the girls I dated that smoked pot where they all had various degrees of stunted views of reality or a lack of good judgment in similar ways. Sorry for my inability to describe this better. The worst I'd seen was in a girl I'd gotten to know well over years of friendship and dating. When she'd talk of things that hurt her that might normally make you or I cry she almost didn't sound like she recognized the connection between her and the issue-almost as if she was talking about another person-very very rarely showing her own connection and her reaction. For many years I took this to simply be her personality but later I decided this was more of an inability of hers-for whatever reason. On the surfaced you'd say she just didn't care about things but after a while you'd realize this was something else almost like a non-connection in her views. I realize this is just what I've seen and others will have some very different views from mine which I can also respect. Just hope it helps...
Hey as a dude whos smoked a hellluva lot of pot till bout 4 months ago (about 50 euros a day, at least 5 joints a day straight for a year and half, before that occasionaly 2wice a year or so) I can tell you, you don't need no medical advice. ITS SHIT. The benefits of not doing it are much better than doing it. I sound like a party pooper but its true. Ive been told I look much better, especially my face. I can breathe much better, think MUCH better and MUCH more clearer and I've kind of woken up to the fact that
POT with or without cigaretes might be directionally proportionate to the bringing to life of the word BUM.
While all of the long-term effects of marijuana use are not yet known, there are studies showing serious health concerns. For example, a group of scientists in California examined the health status of 450 daily smokers of marijuana but not tobacco. They found that the marijuana smokers had more sick days and more doctor visits for respiratory problems and other types of illness than did a similar group who did not smoke either substance.
Cancer
It is hard to find out whether marijuana alone causes cancer because many people who smoke marijuana also smoke cigarettes and use other drugs. Marijuana smoke contains some of the same cancer-causing compounds as tobacco, sometimes in higher concentrations. Studies show that someone who smokes five joints per day may be taking in as many cancer-causing chemicals as someone who smokes a full pack of cigarettes every day.
Immune System
Our immune system protects the body from many agents that cause disease. It is not certain whether marijuana damages the immune system of people. But both animal and human studies have shown that marijuana impairs the ability of T-cells in the lungs' immune defense system to fight off some infections
Lungs and Airways
People who smoke marijuana regularly may develop many of the same breathing problems that tobacco smokers have, such as daily cough and phlegm production, more frequent chest colds, a heightened risk of lung infections, and a greater tendency toward obstructed airways. Cancer of the respiratory tract and lungs may also be promoted by marijuana smoke, since it contains irritants and carcinogens.
Marijuana smokers usually inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer, which increases the lungs' exposure to carcinogenic smoke. Thus, puff for puff, smoking marijuana may increase the risk of cancer more than smoking tobacco does.
Well from what I seen of my cousin from smoking pot most of his life it's not good! He can't keep a job, his brain is fried, it has gotten to a point now where he is living in and a home. Because he's not able to live alone because he's well stupid, dumb because of smoking pot!
He's been checked out by 37 doctors here and in 4 different states. None of the doctors knew about the other doctors we want their honest opinion what his problem was. They were never told about the pot and every doctor asked him, "you've been smoking pot most of your life haven't you?"
Then when he admits to it, then they tell him you'll never be the same and you'll always have mental problems because you choice to screw up your life! It's been 6 years since all the doctors and he's just been given 4 months to live, his brain is shutting down! He's only 43 years old!
