let him slide this one time ,because he gave it back. but anything that is worth more than 200 dollars is considered a felony in california (im not sure exactly how much) but just be glad you got it back and move on , there are more important things to worry about that some kid borrowing your kids bike and then bringing it back...
 
The charge would still be theft. Returning what was stolen doesn't erase the act of theft.
