I have a vintage city bike I use for commuting and I need to find a solution for storing it over winter. Last winter, I was able to leave my bike in a bike garage at college, but now in my new apartment, there is absolutely no room for it. I am worried about leaving it outside, exposed to snow and the really low temperatures (especially because a friend of mine left her bike outside all winter, semi-exposed, and it was completely rusted over by the spring). The only solution I could think of, was to heave my bike up the four stories and store it on our balcony. This way, I would not have to be worried about theft outside. However, it would still be exposed to the weather. Would you recommend to buy a bike cover/tarp to cover it? Or is that relatively ineffective in preventing rust and damage due to snow and low temperatures? Thanks!
