what can I buy so I have an HDMI input for my home theater?

I bought a home theater system (Panasonic 1000W. 5.1) for my dad and it doesn't have a HDMI input. What would I need to be able to get the best sound when watching TV. Is there any kind of adapter/splitter that will allow an HDMI input?
