No doubt more so when you are in four wheel drive. The differential is a wonderful thing, it lets two wheels turn at different rates independent of each other- to a point. At which point something has to give, and the weakest link at this point is the rubber to road one. So the tire that is going the shorter distance makes up for lost ground and the car "hops".
