What computer for graduation present?

so your asking us to decide which fisher-price activity center is better?

ok, i know alienware is way overprice i said that. But u cant build it for 500-600 im sorry, just no.

You can definitely build an alienware dekstop for hundreds less than they advertise. Possibly, for 500-600 depending on the build.

Well, you should update at least a few things before some exploits your out of date machine! Ask people that know about how windows of made, they will explain it to you.

According to people who are just using a computer for the first time.

Ah, so macs are for idiots. It all makes sense now.

And believe me, nobody is going to exploit my machine. I don't even run anti-virus software..

You're quite full of yourself. It's cool that you have so much loyalty towards a brand name, have fun with that.

Hahahahahahahahaha.

Says the one who is supporting apple?

Holy shit, am I in bizzaro world?

I'm not full of myself, I just know what I'm talking about. You, on the other hand, have not given me one reason why anyone would purchase a mac over a PC.

Apple computers are honestly built NO better than any other machine on the market. You could easily get a Lenovo, XPS, Sony, and one of several other notebooks that would beat the living shit out of a macbook pro and cost far under $500 less. Hell, virtually all products branded by apple are out sourced by other companies. You ARE paying for the logo. Period.

If you really are sold on OSX, which is proprietary garbage, use some form of linux. Ubuntu has no viruses, is free, and simple enough for the naive apple user to come to terms with.

Mind you, I HAVE a Macbook. The only reason I own it is because I had a friend getting rid of it for an absurdly low price. Don't claim that I haven't used one nor have an idea of the niche they claim to cater for. Apple prays on those too lazy or stupid to buy computers that will hold up just as well with the same performance with the false notion of a better product.

I prefer PC over Mac, you just don't know how to do things. You're also being trolled sort of.
If someone were to want to do advanced video editing, they could get a lot further with Final Cut Pro than with any PC software (assuming they have a budget of under $10,000).

You guys wanna change the topic a little bit?

I'm getting my college laptop within the coming months and my dad wants me to start researching them. All I need is something that won't break, isn't a Mac, and isn't outrageously expensive. One of the main things he's worried about is some huge change in the technology world that might happen in the next few months like a whole new OS popping out of the blue or something.

Suggestions?

same here, i love the how 90% of the mac community is so stupid

the next windows os is said to be coming out in 2010 (if they remain on schedule, doubtful)

are you bringing a desktop to college? if yes, buy an Eee by Asus.
if not buy a 13.3" laptop from dell or hp

honestly vista isn't as bad people make it out to be. I run vista and ubuntu on my machine. Vista is great, it's the most secure os out there (besides linux), i haven't found any hardware yet that i've had driver issues with.

a year ago yes vista was pretty bad but most companies have adapted to vista

I condone the OP for not going ape shit in this thread. You guys are all ignorant and immature. He said he prefers Macs, end of story. It doesn't make him any less or any greater of a person because he prefers one operating system over another. This thread is pathetic, because even though this is the internet, people have the exact same attitude in real life.

To the OP. I would say a Macbook would be a better choice simply because of the portability factor and the benefits it will provide in a college setting. The new gen macbooks are up to par with the iMacs in everything other than the video card.
