What computer for graduation present?

You might as well spend an extra $200 and get a much faster computer with a disk drive.

Wait, so what's so hit or miss about the Inspiron series? Is it like hard/software malfunctions straight from the factory or something else? The XPS is quite a step up in terms of price which is why I'm asking. It also has stuff built in like a webcam that I just don't need. but I'm still paying for.

Every inspiron I've played with seemed like a run-of-the-mill laptop to me. The one your talking about, with the webcam, looks actually like a decent notebook. (I'm assuming it's the one that comes in a bunch of colors.)

What makes macs better than PCs for photo and video editing? This is always an argument I hear, is it because there is better software available on macs than PCs?
honest question here

bahahaha

Im pretty sure the only thing mac has over PC is final cut pro. I don't understand why you would use that if u can just get adobe Premiere pro, since it is the industry standard

Macbook pro for if you are going to university with a purpose to do well and do homework and get ahead in life.

Any OS other than Mac or Linux if you are still a teenager who sits on his ass playing counterstrike and fapping to newgrounds dressup games.

Mac's can do anything windows can do 178907483167854316804370573027509384 better.

Mac Leopard + Parallels ftmfw.

Windows has over 95% market share, so you know what side of the fence I'm on by stating that.

If you HAD to go Mac, then choose one where the specs fit what you do. Don't buy into 2093209348MB video card when all you're running is word processing or desktop publishing...

Also some suggested Alienware??? Noobs.... Let's buy something for 3X the cost of what you can get in a business class machine equal the specs...

Sometimes the best laptops are with business tailored demographics. Look at those partitions of vendor sites as opposed to the consumer "home/office" sites that everyone else looks at.

Through my jobs, I've gone through 7 laptops and 5 desktops now... My favorite has been the IBM X series and HP NC6000 series... Google them if you wish.

...also in my experience, everyone who says "Macs can do everything Windows does" usually has a dual boot of Windows on their macs to emulate Windows tasks.... the irony...

Ok, let me rephrase it STOCK macs can do anything better than windows. You go to futureshop right now and pick up a windows laptop, install nothing, uninstall nothing, and youve bought yourself a shiny rock. Buy a mac on the other hand and it is golden. All those graphics you posted show nothing either, it's just the internal components. I'm talking about os and general hardware. You could get top of the line video cards and upgrade the ram and a mac will do that too. Windows has more flaws in it than steven segall movies and it will never change. Their latest attempt at a good os is vista which is just a shittier version of the original mac osx. And I have parallels only so I can convert files that I recieve from teachers and lab partners etc to the files I need, or to convert them to windows 95 format for school computers... Go to a post production studio and look what the sound engineers use. Now walk across the hall to the video editing area, now mosy on down the street to the chemistry research center, now go to the beach and look into the windows of research boats.

The world is changing and more and more professional companies are realizing how much simpler and more effective and user friendly macs are. No antivirus software, no hackers, they look great, and they have a virtually unflawed system other than incompatibility with windows, but soon, people will claim that windows is incompatible with macs... Change is good.
