Windows XP + Dual Boot With Ubuntu. Problem solved
Mac OS puts oodles of drivers on their image to be natively compatable with every device. Good for the general 'public' but if you're a nerd, you'll know why I mentioned it lol

The cheapest macbook pro is $2000. The most expensive macbook is $1500. I don't think you have any idea what are you talking about, I sure don't.
No, they claim so though it isn't correct. Sony has had a model thinner for over 4 months at this point. The lenovo X300 is literally the same size though they have done what apple isn't capable of and including a slot loading dvd drive as well as 3 usb ports.
The inspirons use cheaper grade of motherboards and just aren't built nearly as well. The XPS notebooks use all stainless steel mountings, Brushed Aluminum Casings, Slot loading DVD drives. They are simply a better made computer. Check help forums, Inspirons have FAR more recalls and issues than XPS models.

I don't think you realize. Apple didn't reinvent the wheel. They aren't some master innovators that changes how computing is done. They built a unix based OS. Guess what, there are about 25 other operating systems that have done the same thing usually with a price tag of free. Vista is shit, getting better but still shit. The sad thing is, you don't remember 10 years ago when apples operating systems were an absolute joke. No business user would touch them. It wasn't until they got their heads out of their asses and began using intel chips and allowing users to dual boot.
Yes, you do get software with an apple, but you are paying for it. You can go online and get open office, and some form of freeware for literally anything you could need with a windows machine. I have never paid a dime for software in my life.
Your precious apple is not immune to viruses, but since less than 3% of users use apples, why in the world would you make a virus for one. People like you make me want to code a virus specifically for apple users just to shut them up.
You can buy the SAME components in a notebook, and MUCH BETTER components in a desktop with a Window/Linux based machine for less than half the price. Until you give me some just reasoning why I should hand apple my money for putting computers together with other companies parts and charging me twice what it's worth, your argument is null.

No, I understand fully the history of Macintosh and all the other open source os's, but most of the general public doesn't know shit about writing code or anything and I don't claim to. My claim is that with apples new outlook on computers future and their way of looking at it all is what sells. It's way more user friendly for anyone. When I say "why spend money making shit smell like vanilla", im again talking about the general public. I know that almost all viruses are due to the incompetent users, but geuss what, they are almost all incompetent. Windows is great if you know what you are doing, but if you are the average joe, you are bound to have a slow virus ridden computer within two years of your purchase. Macs sell the ease of use, and readiness out of the box. Both os's can have identical capabilities, I just prefer mac's, and if you have a secret way to get discounts from apple, why not go with them.
Sorry for the rant but I stand behind what I say. I have 3 macs in the house, all 3 of which run just as well as the day I got them, and one is about 8 years old.

I think macs are great, especially for media - related uses. I would go with a macbook pro if you have the money, because you will need the memory and stuff. Macboook air is not really worth it to me, because you are missing some vital things, such as a firewire port and whatnot
