I am writing currently in the midst of writing my fourth novel. My character has an ability, if it could be called that. This 'ability' enables him to by choice.. or not.. to "Flashback" to an earlier time and his actions there will ultimately alter the present when he "comes back".
I was discussing this with a editor buddy and it was brought to my attention that the term 'Flashback', might be the wrong terminology, seeing as how a flash back might literally not be alterable as it is just a memory. One might have more control in a dream than a flashback, per se. Though, I want it to be "Flashback-esque". What could the correct term be?
i.e. (This is made up for this particular example to illustrate my point): My character finds out his car is broken. He has a flashback to the time it broke and he makes sure it doesn’t, when he comes back form the flashback it is not broken.
Any ideas as to what could A) Cause this ability B) What the correct term could /would be for the flashback?
