What could this re-occurring dream mean?

I keep dreaming that I'm on the first floor of my two-story house, it's nighttime, and all the lights are off. I sense an evil presence either arriving or already there and I feel that the most important thing in the world is for me to hide from it in the dark as I'm attempting to turn on the lights. I keep flicking the light switches to on, but they don't turn on. I'm always panicked and running back and forth in these dreams. The three rooms it happens in are the laundry room, passing through the kitchen, and into the bathroom. Nothing traumatic has happened in either of these rooms in reality.
