What do compact discs spin around fast when you are listening to a CD or watching a

DVD movie? Why do those round discs(CDs,DVD,computer discs) spin fast when they are being listened to or if I were put a CD in a CD player(that has a little glass window so you can see the CD spinning while the music is playing)why would my music CD need to spin, what is the reason for that(no I am not referring to the wheel from the show Wheel Of Fortune)

Its because the sensor that reads the disc is on the edge of it, and the centrifugal force of the spinning movement throws all the stored information to the edge. Once it stops, it all goes back to the middle again.
