I have a Pleco and it keeps trying to latch onto my large goldfish, I was wondering what I can do about this, I have dropped algae discs in the tank but the fish eat them before the pleco gets a chance to get them.
Plecos should not be housed with goldfish anyway. A plecostomus does much better in a tropical tank with an aquarium heater to maintain the tank between 77F-82F. Goldfish are coldwater fish and should not be kept above 74F.
You need to rehome/return or buy a new aquarium for the pleco.
Goldfish are EXTREMELY dirty fish (So much so that the Pleko likely won't last long in there anyway). If the tank is clean to a point where the Pleko can't find a source of food, it could be going after the goldfish to "clean them" for food.
Not a lot you can do. Get a tank divider and split the tank in half. That was you keep them away from each other. Alternate them from side to side though on a monthly basis.
If the Pleko goes belly up, try snails next time. They're neat to watch and they keep the tank pretty clean. They handle the goldfish filth better than Plekos.
