What do i do if my Windows gadgets (specially the slideshow) doesn't do what i want

it to do? HELP PLEASE!? The opacity doesn't work. the options doesn't work either.when i start my laptop it doesn't come out, i have to open it to see it. it all started when i installed some programs. i'm using Windows 7 home premium.
