What do I download to play .rar files?

I downloaded the sims 3 and expansion packs online and they downloaded onto BitTorrent. However when I double-clicked on the one I think I was meant to click on, it said it was unable to play the file. All the files (except the readme) are .rar files and I want to know what to download to be able to play the game?? I'm flying to new zealand tomorrow so I kinda need this in under a day.
