What does DIVX on a dvd mean?

Yes it could be a problem.
DIVX (Digital Video Express) was an attempt by Circuit City and an entertainment law firm to create an alternative to video rental in the United States. They are a disposable video that may only be good for 48 hrs.
It was a good idea in concept, but the one on eBay may not be reusable.
I'd pass on the offer and check my local thrift stores for a used one.

As I know it nowadays, DivX is a codec required to play .avi files on Windows XP/Vista via Windows Media Player.

I'm attempting to buy a dvd from amazon.com and the dvd said it's divx or something at the top. Will this be a problem if I just want to watch it on a standard dvd player? Or not at all? Thanks!
