What does "idle" mean on facebook chat?

Can it mean
(a) you have not touched your computer in a while (eg- no mouse movement, typing ect) OR,

(b) you are still using your computer, and have the facebook page open, just havnt used it in a while

(c) you are browsing facebook profiles and active on facebook, but havn't talked to someone on chat for a while

The answer is D, it can be all of the above!

It's all dependent on the specific programs and the settings therin! All it takes is a little bit of time and an observant eye trying out different scenarios, in science it would be a hypothesis that you have to test.
