L stands for lol so instead of saying lol like a lame person, you put the "lol face" :L
 
It meaaans like lol kindaaa or a faace like thiss ----->:tongue:

somethiing along those lines, it aaint anything wrong i dont thiink :)

(L)=A heart, that on some websites shows up as one.
(LL)=Nooo clue. :)
 
Its a shortcut for a popular MSN emoticon.
When you type it, it shows a face laughing Lol. :)
