What does my cat lick me excessively?

I adopted my cat a year ago from my local animal shelter. She is 6 years old and is such a sweetheart. Ever since I have had her, she likes to lick me pretty excessively. Her favorite place to lick me is my arms, but she also licks my legs and face. It has gotten pretty excessive. In all the years my family and I have owned cats, this is the first cat that has ever done this. I am confused what this means and what I should do about it?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

you are lucky you have got kind cat who loves you a lot. you must be very sweet heart to her that's why she loves you a lot. she must bee such a cute baby say hello to her from me.
 
She is addorable and probably needs affection. You could try to lick her too (unless it's a sphinx cat, but most domestic cats are furry) and play with him a lot - but please, please, do not eat it!
