What does the Barcode scanner do in the Nokia N95?

I don't understand what the barcode scaner in the nokia 95-3 model does. If you turn it on, it scans and keeps scanning, so what do u do?
 
The barcod scanner on the 95 is used to exatracting info thats contained within the bar code, that could be alll manner of dat, from we bsite addresses to phone numbers etc etc also u can check it out and what the idea is behind it by using it to scan the code off a magazine, or a newspaper tends to work well :)
