What does the statement "discuss the data trends" mean?

I'm doing a Lab write up and for Results/Discussion, I have to discuss data trends......I dont know what that means
 
Think of the stock market: up down up down up down etc etc but the trend is the long-term direction. So if it is lower a year on and thereafter there are more downs than ups, it could be argued that the data trend is downwards. Data trends look at the big picture. Any help?
