what does tobacco taste like?

like sweet, salty ... i'm not going to smoke it or anything but my friend did and she said it tasted like apples so we're trying to figure out if she smoked weed or tobacco..
 
First of all, Jerome is totally right.

Second of all, weed doesn't taste like apples. It was probably flavored tobacco. And I think your friend would've noticed if it was weed -- it's pretty obvious after a minute or so.

Unflavored tobacco has a musky, meaty taste. I can't describe it precisely since I personally think it tastes like shit and thus smoke it very rarely.
