Just bought a dodge charger r/t 5.7 hemi v8. Anyone else own one and know what gas it takes? Doesn't say on gas cap lid and w/o an owners manual.. Thanksss

Great question, I have owned a 2006 Dodge Magnum RT (same 5.7L V8 340HP engine) for about two years until I sold it a year ago and bought a 2009 Dodge Charger with the 3.5L V6 250HP engine.
Unfortunately during city driving the 5.7L HEMI V8 is horrible on gas, the cylinder displacement system only works when you’re maintaining a steady speed over 60 kilometres per hour, anything under 60 will put all 8 cylinders to work resulting in heavy consumption. So if you drive in medium/heavy traffic either in the city or highway, don’t be disappointed if on a full tank of gas you only get 460 to 520 kilometres.
The HEMI engine is most efficient on the highway during steady speeds of over 90 kilometres per hour, your HEMI engine will operate on 4 cylinders and on a full tank of gas you should be able to reach 560 – 600 kilometres, keeping in mind that you don’t get stuck in heavy traffic, and your acceleration habit is under 3500 RPM.
The 5.7L V8 340 – 370 HP is a powerful engine, but from my experience I would not recommend using it as an everyday vehicle if you’re concerned with gas consumption, that’s what the V6’s are for.
If you’re into burnouts, track/street racing, or smoking that stupid teenager driving a supped-up rotted shit box thinking he’s on top of the world, then the HEMI V8 is for you. Other then that it’s a bit expensive to have so much power under your foot if you don’t plan to use it.
Also, use only either 91 or 93 octane; forget about 87 because your engine will not be responsive and lazy during acceleration.

Keep in mind, the numbers I have provided are in kilometres not miles, do the conversion to miles if you’re not familiar with kilometres.
Hope my answer helps. Goodbye.

it runs the best on premium fuel ,but in certain cases you can use a lower grade of fuel ,but to get the best performance and mileage from it use premium in it,good luck.
