...iron core? what is the reason why they have iron cores?
 
Massive terrestrial planets differentiate chemically. Iron is the densest and heaviest metal that can be created by stars going nova and super-nova. Iron, nickel, and sulfur sink too form the cores of terrestrial planets when they differentiate chemically.
