I need a new pair of headphones for DJing. I have narrowed my choices to the AKG K-181 or the Pioneer HDJ-1000. They have pretty much the same specs in terms of output. They are also similar in build. The thing I like more about the Pioneer HDJ 1000 is that they are from a very reputable brand. The things that I like more about the AKG K-181 is that they have a bass boost, and they are less expensive (about $122 Can. versus $210 on HTFR.com). I Just haven't heard much about AKG. What are your opinions? I was originally considering the Sony MDR V700 but they have a manufacturing defect.

Definitely the AKG. I got one (a K240 MkII) and it is absolutely incredible. I don't use it for professional work, just for my own musical enjoyment, but you hear so much more than what you here with regular headphones. I also read a lot of reviews saying that AKG's work very weill in the studio and they last (literally) a lifetime. WIth mine though, it's a bit quiet (supposed to be like that) but the sound gets better and better each time I use them. Mine was worth about $210-$240, but I got it on Amazon, brand new, for $147. So you might want to check out prices on Amazon or eBay.
