What is a Great Used Truck, killer horsepower, wide wheel base, and roomy or has extended cab?

My Marine son has 8-days off--He's coming home before being sent off again and wants to buy his first truck. He wants power...He loves my Infiniti but I told him it's a chic car and a he needs a truck but Im clueless after that. He will want to install a tiny lift as well so keep that in mind. Any ideas.?? Additionally, he would like an extended cab with (1) door... I know nothing about good, reliable trucks that are low maintiance.

I personally do not like diesel trucks so I will steer him away from that.

Thanks--Any good solid suggestions will help--he will be here in two days and the shopping begins.

Thanks!
Tim:

Thank you. I say I dont like Diesels only becasue thier loud...Then again I pick football teams by the color of thier uniforms.
So, really, It's knowledge and advise like yours that I need becasue im so ignorant when it comes to auto;s.

So, for the trucks with diesels...and thinking about a kid (his wants) and all his needs like reliability, price, etc..what do you recommend...

I really appreciate your advise here...
.
Thanks Skydog... Well, im financially stable and I drive the infiniti...i agree my son should save...Thing is, he has. He will be buying used, and due to saving his entire life (not touching his new found fortune of 2k a month the military pays him to defend our country) he will most likely be paying cash.
Thanks again!

I'd get an F150. I wouuld not consider the F 250 as they have been problematic and would only go the diesal option if I needed that large a truck.

The f150 lightning is pretty awesome, i'm not really into trucks but i was impressed when i saw one.

what is your beef with diesels, are the too reliable, too dependable ,too effcient or the fact that in 5 yrs they will be worth 60% more then the gas counter part and that kinda resale value just scare you away,
DUDE WAKE UP diesels are the best there is, they will easily run 350k ALL DAY LONG not a few that will run to 300k and everyone wants to throw a party like a gas engine, its like clock work
i have seen cummins diesels in dodge pickups personally at 475k 505k, 705k, 803k ALL ON orginal engines, is that thought scary to the simple minded
if you must go gas cuz your gay, go chevy V8 they run 250k like clock work
