No one makes V8 powered vehicles better than General Motors. Pair this with the most advanced hybrid system available on the market that was designed/engineered with partnerships between General Motors and Daimler-Chrysler, I think odds are good that you could trust any truck powered by either system, but with the GM SUV's you get the best of both V8 gasoline power and electric propulsion.
There is something amazingly awesome about driving in a full-size SUV on battery power up to 30mph.
As for the other hybrid SUV's I've actually heard that the Toyota Highlander Hybrid is nowhere near as reliable as it's gasoline only counterpart. But I have a buddy whose parents own one, and they seem to like it just fine.
I've heard great things about the Ford Escape Hybrid.
