What is a medium and a large mountain bike represent?

I am 6'1 and am looking to buy a mountain bike. Should I be looking for a medium or large bike and what size does each actually represent, any help would be appreciated
 
You would be looking at a large. Frames are measured from the center of the crank to the top of the seat tube where the seat clamp is located. You go by inseam measurement more the height. If the manufacturer has the geometry measurements of the frame you can see what the seat tube length is. Bike frames are usually measured in inches or cm and not s,m,l.
