What is a subsidy pin?

Ive got a mobile phone which i previously had as vodafone. Not sure if it was locked to this network. I just put in an o2 sim an its asking for the subsidy pin? What does that mean? thanks

It's locked to network..So it's asking for subsidy password....Motorola Phone only ask for subsidy password..Your Mobile brand is Motorola?what is model?You can get the subsidy code from the site Classicunlocking.com and unlock it easily.
