how do you de-shell peas and pre soak flakes?

As other people have said, flakes and pellets are the best all round nutrition for goldfish. After all, they are designed specifically to meet the goldfish's dietary requirements. Because you have fancy goldfish, they are more prone to swimbladder problems than common goldfish, thus I would recommend that you soak any dried food thoroughly before giving it to your goldfish. Also, sinking pellets are better than floating flakes, as flakes cause the goldfish to gulp at the surface, rather than feeding in mid water or off the bottom. Gulping air down when they eat can also result in swimbladder problems. I would also recommend feeding them de-shelled peas on a regular basis to keep their digestive tracts clean and moving and to prevent constipation.

Honestly, I would think the flakes/pellets have more balanced nutrition. You wouldn't feed a dog pork chops everyday, nope dog food that has all kinds of scientifically balanced ingredients crammed into a bag would be best. Maybe feed them frozen food as a treat. Stick with the packaged foods.

Keep em happy with the right temperature of water. Don't mistake goldfish to be tropical fish like most do, they are cold water fish. Meaning keep them in water in the low 70s, not the high 70s like tropical fish. They will fish kiss you for it.By Old man
