I mean, it's not that I don't like them, they're just not my type of genre, but almost everyone seems to like books such as The Twilight Series, The Hunger Games, etc. There ARE some that I've read & liked- Jurassic Park, etc. I've already tried others, but they just don't pique my interest. For those who like them- is it because the setting/characters are so different from reality? I'm the complete opposite and would rather read realistic fiction, where the plot's very similar to real life. So, I was just wondering, what is it that makes people like them so much? Keep in mind: I'm not saying they're bad or anything, I'm just curious.

It offers a crucial escape from the monotony of daily life, and it makes your imagination soar. Your no longer trapped by the laws of reality and by the oppressive forces of everyday life. You are free to explore a land full of things never before seen. It's like every book is a journey into the unknown, unexplored, settings provided by good fiction writers. Fantasy gives people something to dream about. Personally I wouldn't want to read realistic fiction because it doesn't really "expand horizons"for me.
