What is significant about the number 8?

I'm curious as to know what is significant about this number, I want to know any information from the obvious to the almost unknown whether it be from the bible or greek mythology anything is relevant.

In the Bible 8 is the next number after 7. 7 is the last day in the week, a day of rest. Number 8 means a new beginning.
The 8th card in the Tarot cards mean totality.
The number 8 resembles the math symbol for infinity.
