First, there is not "sports cruiser" class, There are sport (ninja 650, yamaha yzf 600), super sport (cbr600rr, zx6r, gsxr) dual sport, (ktm) touring, (Victory Vision, Harley Electra glide, honda goldwing,) Adventure touring, (most bmw's, kawi versys), Cruiser, (yamaha star, Harley fatboy, Honda shadow) and performance cruiser, (Victory hammer, kingpin, vegas, Harley vrod, yamaha vmaxx).

None of the bikes you mentioned will be much of an upgrade from your ninja 500, They are all in the beginner sport bike class. If it were me, I would be looking at a Honda VTR1000.

personally, I love the viffer. Handles great, but I found a CBR 1100XX and decided to get it instead.

and the term I've heard for these bikes most commonly is "sport touring"

You are referring to the "Sport-Tour" class I think. You really have to sit on then and drive them to determine comfort, but the VFR is very comfortable for long rides. And if you are moving up, you probably want to have a bit more power. The Monster isnt all that impressive in passing power or the SV in my opinion. If you are going with this type of bike and need a consideral difference in power also, remember that these sport tour bikes although the same size as their sport bike counterparts, do not come with comparable power.
