What is the best device/gadget to check and reply emails fast, do skype, yahoo...

...messenger chats, read pdf books?
I thought of iPhone, or iPod touch but I doubt that I'll efficiently be able to:
1. Type a long email reply fast.
2. Read e-book(s) for few hours without having stress on my eyes.

Am I right with this thought?

I thought also of getting a Netbook but I'm not sure it's the best choice.
 
iPod touch for sure. It is small enough to fit in your pocket. Has excellent typing features and doesn't cost a fortune use (as an iphone would with service contracts and stuff)

It is also a quite resilient device, hard to break.
