My main needs for a new handset will include> it will need to act as a modem to a laptop (essential), I would like a half decent camera 5mp with a flash, T9 as I text a lot, I would like to use any new phone I get to not only act as a modem with my Laptop but also have stand alone internet capability’s? Touch screen isn’t a thing that interests me; my last hand-set was a Sony Ericsson K850i and was useless! Kept freezing and I ended up sending four back, so reliability would be nice also.
Any light you could shed on this would be very helpful! I keep looking at reviews of handsets and got fed up with mixed opinions.
Thanks

I'd recommend the Touch-HD. I have the Touch-Diamond on T-Mobile with the Mobile-Max (was Web'n'Walk plus) upgrade which gives me 3G internet access on my laptop on an unlimited basis.

In most built up areas I can use High-speed data. Even the GSM data isn't too bad if I need to revert to that!

It does have a great camera, although it doesn't have a flash.

In terms of reliability - it is Windows Mobile, however I have had the phone for 6 months and have only needed to reboot it a couple of times. I have flashed the ROM though to get rid of the operator's own crap (T-Mobile supply a default theme which is white and pink...) and improved the 'radio ROM'.

In terms of the stand-alone internet, I can use both Internet Explorer and Opera. I have both installed and they work fine.

I have had these HTC network branded phones for the last few years (SPVM2000, SPVM600 on Orange and Compact-III and now Compact-IV on T-Mobile) and I definitely think this latest one is the most stylish, reliable and useful of the series so far.
